What is UV inks?

A type of ink that is cured by exposure to UV light. The vehicle in these inks contains mostly monomers and photoinitiators. The ink is applied to a substrate and then exposed to UV light; the initiators release highly reactive atoms, which cause the rapid polymerisation of the monomers and the ink sets into a hard film.

With UV curable ink, it dries so rapidly and does not have a chance to spread or absorb into the substrate so there’s no smudging. As UV curing does not involve the evaporation or removal of part of the ink and it’s a low temperature process, almost 100% of the ink can be used to form a film.

Product Recommendation:

What is paper varnish?

Varnish is a clear, transparent coating that is applied to a printed piece during or after printing. Packaging is often varnished to increase gloss, abrasion resistance and water resistance. Protects the printed material from fingerprints, stains and abrasion and enhances the depth of colour and the overall distinctive style of the packaging's appearance. Varnishes include water-based varnishes, oil-based varnishes, UV varnishes, alcohol-soluble varnishes and other varieties.

Paper varnish according to its coating process can be divided into roller coating, flat printing and screen leakage printing three categories, of which the roller coating process is more widely used, varnish consumption is also the largest, the latter two with tail partial varnishing process, for the local decoration of the printing surface. The coating process is different and the nature of the paint is also different, mainly in terms of viscosity and rheology.

Advantages:

1、Fast curing speed. The ink is dry the second it comes off the press. No additional dry time is needed and job can go straight to finishing.

2、Eco-friendly - no emissions

3、The printing is sharper and more Vivid. Compared to other types of ink, UV inks are basically 100% solid, the print has a better gloss and the colours are fuller and richer.

4、UV inks increase special effect capabilities.

5、Better chemical and solvent resistance.

6、Works with a variety of materials, including paper and non-paper substrates.

7、UV Inks are more resistant to scratching, smudging, scuffing and rubbing.
